Dope Rappers: Emilio RaStok, Stel, Phantom [Who Dat??? #002]
Who Dat??? #002
It’s been a hot minute since my first Who Dat post, so I’ve been trying to get my shit together. In all honesty, I’ve been sitting on these songs for a while now, but after countless attempts, I’ve actually got an article written. I’m not going to kid myself, one of these posts a week is a bit unrealistic. I want to be able to post artists that I genuinely like, rather than pumping out content that I’m not happy with. But for sure though, it won’t be this big of a gap in between posts.
Emilio RaStok – Keep It Simple (Feat. Jizy Jones)
Emilio RaStok is a part of the hip hop collective known as Invasion 09. Oh yeah, they are based in Netanya, Israel! Well I don’t have much to say besides the fact that I’ve listened to this song probably 10 times, and it’s like each time is a brand new experience. The beat is crazy! For some reason it reminds me of a racing video game, like Formula 1 or Nascar style racing.
The “Keep It Simple” hook is exactly that, but it sounds so good! This is fun hook to rap along with. I also love the scratching at the end of the song. Dat’s sum real hip hop right der!
Stel – Fallen Angel (Feat. Jewels)
Wow! This one hits different for sure. I’ve said it many times before, but I absolutely love introspective hip hop. Stel is self reflective, almost self deprecating on “Fallen Angel”. As you can probably see from the cover art, Stel has an angel over one shoulder and a devil or demon over the other shoulder.
Each time I listen to “Fallen Angel” I feel like I pick up on something extra that I missed before. It’s such a creatively written song, and there’s so much to take in.
phantom – personal
Alright I don’t actually know if I’m capable of putting into words why I love “personal” so much. phantom’s voice is kind of creepy and relaxing at the same time. Something about her voice, especially when she draws out certain words, it’s just captivating. I feel like I’m in a trance, almost high, even when I’m stone cold sober at work. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I listened to “personal” 20-30 times in a 24 hour period.
Make sure you show these cats some love and keep an ear out for new music. If you’d like to be featured on the blog and/or podcast, go ahead and submit your music. Who Dat??? is more for beginning artists who don’t have a large fanbase yet, but I feature rappers & producers of all tiers.
